OPEN DIE FORGING
This process involves our blacksmith’s deforming a heated metal workpiece between two flat or simple-shaped dies that do not enclose the material entirely. The metal is free to flow except where it’s in contact with the dies, which allows for the production of large and simple shapes.
CLOSED DIE FORGING
This method involves pressing heated metal into a die that contains a specific shape or impression. The metal flows to fill the shape of the die, which results in more complex and precise parts.
UPSET DIE FORGING
This is a specific forging process that increases the diameter of a portion of the workpiece by compressing its length. It involves gripping the material in a fixed die and compressing the free end with a moving die.
